A Brief Review of Bilayer Tablet Technology: A Concept of Immediate and Sustained Drug Delivery

Abstract: According to the literature review of the design of bilayer tablets are suitable for sequential release of two drug in which one layer is immediate release layer and the second layer is sustained release layer. Bilayer tablets have been development to achieve immediate and sustained delivery of different drugs with pre-defined release profile. Developing a combination of two or more Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) in a single fixed dosage form has increase in the pharmaceutical industry, promoting patients convenience and compliance.
