Extraction of Pigment from Pomegranate (Punica granatum) Flower Used for Various Applications

Abstract: Pomegranate is a flower known from ancient times. The flower and the plant have various medical applications. The fruit, leaves and flowers are known for its medicinal used. Keeping this as a base the flower extract was taken. It is used as a functional food and nutraceutical source. The whole plant has many beneficial effects to human health. It is nutrient dense food rich in beneficial phyto chemicals. Pomegranate fruit extract are used in cooking, baking, juice blends, meal garnishes, smoothies and alcoholic beverages such as cocktails and wine. The extraction of colour is done in aqueous medium in soxhlet apparatus. The flower extract is used in various applications of food industry and in the field of microbiology and in textile industry. Hence the extracted dye has various benefits and its health benefits.
