Author(s): Aakash Kumar Sirohi* and G. Gnanarajan
Abstract: Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that demands precise and sustained control of blood glucose levels. This abstract discusses the formulation and development of controlled release tablets for the treatment of T2DM. The focus lies on selecting appropriate antidiabetic drugs, designing formulations with controlled drug release mechanisms, and employing polymers and innovative delivery systems to achieve prolonged therapeutic effects. Various strategies, including osmotic pump systems, bilayer tablets, and gastroretentive systems, are explored to optimize drug release kinetics. Emphasis is placed on biocompatibility, safety, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that the developed formulations meet both efficacy and safety standards. The goal is to enhance patient compliance by providing a convenient and effective treatment option for individuals with Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus. The comprehensive approach discussed herein integrates pharmacological principles, formulation science, and regulatory considerations for the successful development of controlled release tablets tailored for the management of T2DM.
